ApoE Genotyping Test

Your genes hold powerful insights. This test helps you unlock them.

Are you at risk for Alzheimer’s disease or heart disease? Are you wondering how your DNA affects your brain and heart health?

The ApoE Genotyping Test from DNA ConneXions can provide valuable insights. Everyone carries two copies of the ApoE gene, but not all genetic combinations are created equal. Some variations can impair the body’s ability to detoxify mercury and other heavy metals, while others are linked to a higher risk of Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, and chronic inflammation. Most people are unaware of their genetic makeup until symptoms begin to surface.

DNA CONNEXIONS APOLIPOPROTEIN E (ApoE) GENOTYPING TEST

The DNA ConneXions ApoE Genotyping Test identifies which genetic combination of the ApoE gene you carry (of the six possible). Knowing which combination you have provides insight into your body’s ability to detoxify heavy metals, as well as your risk for Alzheimer’s disease and other conditions. This knowledge empowers you to take control of your long-term health before symptoms begin.

Early awareness leads to smarter prevention.

What The ApoE Genotyping Test Identifies and Why It Matters

This test identifies which ApoE genotype you carry. Everyone has two copies of the ApoE gene, which determines your “genotype” (e.g., E2/E2, E2/E3, E2/E4, E3/E3, E3/E4, E4/E4.)

The ApoE protein has been significantly linked to a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s Disease and cognitive development issues. Specifically, the ApoE4 allele (genetic variant) has been linked with brain atrophy, Alzheimer’s Disease, cardiovascular disease, poor immune response and increased cholesterol levels.

The ApoE protein also plays a role in the removal of mercury and other heavy metals from the body. The optimal genotype for removing mercury is ApoE 2/2, while ApoE 3/3 is the most common, and ApoE 4/4 is the least effective.

This insight can help you personalize your wellness strategy, whether you’re proactively preventing issues or managing early symptoms.

Please Note: It is important to understand that while ApoE4 is the most detrimental variant, detection of one or two ApoE4 variants does not guarantee or diagnose Alzheimer’s Disease or other neurological conditions.  However, the presence of one or two ApoE 4 variants does significantly increase the risk of developing such conditions. Knowing this information will empower you to make informed decisions to minimize exposure to heavy metals and avoid high-risk activities linked to neurodegenerative conditions.

Patients should seek a consultation with a qualified physician or specialist if they possess a high-risk genotype.

You can’t change your genes, but you can change what you do with the information.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is this test a diagnosis for Alzheimer’s or heart disease?

No. It identifies genetic risk, not a diagnosis. However, it can help guide prevention and early intervention strategies.

What is Apolipoprotein E (ApoE)?

Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is a class of proteins involved in the metabolism of fats in the body. It plays a key role in transporting lipoproteins, fat-soluble vitamins, and cholesterol from the lymph system into the bloodstream. ApoE is primarily synthesized in the liver but is also present in the brain, kidneys, and spleen. The ApoE4 genetic variant has been associated with brain atrophy, Alzheimer’s Disease, and other neurological conditions.

How is the sample collected?

Using a non-invasive Super Floss collection method. No blood, no needles.

Who should take this test?

Anyone with a family history of Alzheimer’s or cardiovascular disease, or anyone who wants to personalize their health plan with genetic insight.

How long does it take to get results?

You will receive your results via encrypted email 7-10 days after the lab receives your sample.
